Levees.org featured on front page of Times Picayune

A story about important new data released by Levees.org is featured today on the front page of the New Orleans Times Picayune.

“Levee statistics point up their importance to nation’s economy” is about the American people and their relationship with levees. It’s also over a year in the making.  It took 6 months alone just to get data from FEMA in a request by Levees.org under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Months ago, Levees.org discovered that most Americans live in counties protected by levees in the FOIA request. Now we’re releasing new research that concluded that levees more than pay for themselves when their cost is compared to investment in them.

This information is covered in an excellent article by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Mark Schleifstein and can also be viewed on NOLA.com
