In 2024, Governor Jeff Landry decided he wanted to select the levee board members who serve on the Flood Protection Authority East. Since then, Landry’s hand-picked people have 1) forced early retirement of the top department heads with decades of know-how, and 2) have increased the police budget by 45% and bought assault rifles and tasers.
The Levees.org leadership is not impressed with this “my way or the highway” style of governance of Landry’s levee board. But we note that the two biggest agitators (board member Roy Carubba and police chief Josh Rondeno) are now out.
And most importantly, this past May, the Army Corps of Engineers and the CPRA completed their annual inspection of local levee maintenance and they have assured the public that, if they see a problem, they will take action. Check out our new one-minute video explaining why.
