Preparations underway for Historic Plaque Unveiling at Levee Breach site in New Orleans

Members of the Gentilly community place the 104 pound plaque onto the post near ground zero of the London Avenue Canal levee breach site

At 5:30pm yesterday, members of the Gentilly neighborhood community hoisted a Historic Plaque onto its post near the breach site of the London Avenue Canal (east side).

Assisting with the placement was Nick Harris, Sr, Assistant VP at Dillard University- Community Development Corporation, Reverend Lionel Davis, Sr, Liaison, Pilotland & Chaplain, Filmore Gardens Neighborhood Assoc, Oji Alexander, Project Assistant, Project Home Again.

After the Plaque was set in place, it was covered in preparation for a Formal Unveiling. Please join us on Friday May 20 at 6pm when Levees.org and Irvin Mayfield Jr. and others unveil the Louisiana State Historic Plaque for everyone to see.

Soon, we will be commemorating a historic event that people all over the world saw on TV.
