A bill championed by Levees.org continues to see success in the legislature.
HB 266 authored by Rep Patrick Connick-R (Marrero) will require term limits for the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority nominating committee.
The group Levees.org has led a successful campaign showing how the levee board reform, in effect, had taken control of who gets to award flood protection contracts out of the Governor’s hands and gave it to a small group with apparent life terms.

The spillway recently made news when it began ripping away under unusually heavy rain and snowmelt. Some 188,000 people had only hours to escape.
This sort of engineering mistake is similar to what happened in the 1980s when the US Army Corps of Engineers was behind schedule in building protective hurricane levees in New Orleans.

This bill passed with amendments, authored by State Rep Patrick Connick-R (Marrero), will apply term limits to a small group that selects who controls more than $60 million of taxpayer dollars annually.
In the last seven days, Levees.org has listened to some concerns and – in consultation with Rep. Connick – was able to work out a compromise that protects taxpayer dollars.
