Busloads of visitors from all over the world come every day to the newly opened Levee Exhibit Hall and Garden.

They come to see and touch the site of the London Avenue Canal levee breach. They come to learn how it affected the neighborhood.

They come to learn about all the breaches, all the neighborhoods, all the lives.

They often ask, “How do the neighboring homeowners feel about tour busses rolling through every day.” This is the answer:

“The neighbors love to see people interested in their story. The neighbors are also very engaged in the park upkeep. Mardi Gras Indian Big Chief Laugand comes out on Sunday with his kids to water the plants. Kenneth Evans waters on Tuesday and Sidney St. Martin on Thursday.”

And when his daughter Renee Carrere is able to accompany him, David Ferguson, Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, comes out and waters the native plants in the memorial rain garden. Mr. Ferguson, a Montford Point Marine, is 90.
