Mr. Shearer is appearing personally on May 14 at the Columbus theater and on May 15 at the Cincinnati theater.

The Big Uneasy is the real story about the flooding of New Orleans during Katrina. It was the product of design / construction flaws in a levee system Congress ordered the Army Corps of Engineers to build to protect New Orleans from hurricane surge.

The more people who seeThe Big Uneasy, the better because New Orleans is not alone. More than 100 American cities are protected by levee systems designed and built by the Army Corps.

Why should you see the movie? Here’s why.

On Friday May 20 at 6pm, Levees.org will host an Unveiling Ceremony for a Louisiana State Historic Plaque with Irvin Mayfield Jr., Grammy Award winning cultural ambassador to the City of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana.

The Historic Plaque will be placed near the London Avenue Canal Eastside Breach Site (corner of Warrington Drive and Mirabeau Avenue) in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans.

Mr. Mayfield’s participation will include playing the Elysian trumpet, hand-built by David Monette, the modern master of trumpet design, and dedicated to the memory of Irvin Mayfield, Sr. and all of the victims of the flooding on August 29, 2005.

While the Historic Plaque is Levees.org’s gift to the people of Gentilly, the text was crafted and the location was chosen in collaboration with the neighborhood association leaders and affected residents.

The Unveiling Ceremony will take place rain or shine, and is open to the public.

Soon we will be commemorating a historic event that people all over the world saw on CNN.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu earns Seal of Approval for 60 Minutes Segment

CBS 60 Minutes Anchor Byron Pitts interviews New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu

We are very pleased that the Mayor of New Orleans uses his eyes to see and his ears to hear.

We are glad that he not only understands why the city that he governs flooded almost six years ago, he clearly articulates the reason on national television.

On Sunday night, Mayor Mitch Landrieu pointed out emphatically the who, what and why on CBS News’ 60 Minutes.

The damage that was caused down here was not caused by a natural disaster. It was caused because the levees broke. And the levees were owned, engineered and operated by the federal government.

Our Mayor communicated that he “got it” early in his tenure when he selected three board members of Levees.org to serve on his Flood Protection and Coastal Restoration Task Force. (There only only 20 people in total on the Task Force.)

Even if 60 Minutes were just a bully pulpit, Mayor Landrieu used it well and he deserves the Levees.org Seal of Approval.
