Don’t miss debut of Treme tonight

If you haven’t invited friends over (or invited yourself to a friend’s place) to watch the series premiere of Treme, there’s still time!

Tonight at 9:00 CST, HBO’s new series will debut, and rumor has it that Levees.org supporters will applaud the character played by John Goodman. I have it on good authority that he has some choice words for the Army Corps of Engineers.

Mr. Goodman of course, is a spokesperson for Levees.org and volunteered his time to appear in a public service announcement for Levees.org in 2007.

And according to New Orleans Times Picayune reporter Dave Walker, “…with a few notable exceptions, reviews (for Treme) so far from outlets of all sizes all over the country have been favorable unto near-delirious with praise…”

Don’t miss the show tonight!

Ivor van Heerden releases affidavit detailing retaliatory activity by LSU officials

Professor Ivor van Heerden, Feb 10, 2010

Dr. Ivor van Heerden

Ivor van Heerden, former deputy director of Louisiana State University’s Hurricane Center asked Friday that U.S. District Judge James J. Brady of Baton Rouge order his immediate reinstatement at LSU.

Van Heerden’s contract with LSU will expire May 21.

In February, van Heerden sued LSU and four administrators alleging that his LSU career is ending because he blamed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the failure of levees and floodwalls in New Orleans during Katrina in 2005. He says LSU officials were worried that federal funding would be jeopardized.

In a sworn affidavit released yesterday, Ivor van Heerden named those at LSU who were angry that he criticized the Army Corps.

LSU receives large federal grants from the Army Corps.

Meanwhile, the 50,000-member American Association of University Professors (AAUP) has notified LSU that it has established and ad hoc committee to investigate the school’s action against van Heerden.

Still more details emerge on HBO’s Treme with John Goodman

Sandy Rosenthal and actor John Goodman on the set recording a public service announcement for Levees.org April 2007.

The fat lady has yet to sing, but Levees.org supporters should feel very encouraged by all the reviews about co-star John Goodman in HBO’s upcoming new series ‘Treme.’

In a Los Angeles Times article, Eric Overmyer, co-creator of ‘Treme’ muses about a soliloquy he wrote for Mr. Goodman’s character Creighton Bernette, who “rails against everyone, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the federal government” three months after the levees failed in New Orleans.

Levees.org supporters have reason to feel confidence that, when the subject is levee failures, that the script will be accurate, since John Goodman is a spokesperson for Levees.org. Supporters may remember how Mr. Goodman graciously volunteered his time to appear in a public service announcement for Levees.org in 2007.

Don’t miss the debut episode of HBO’s Treme on Sunday April 11, 2010 at 9pm CST.
